The View from the Christmas Tree 🎄

As we near Christmas, I’ve been thinking about how leadership can be a bit like a Christmas tree.
From a distance, my tree always looks pretty and relatively ‘together’. But if you lie underneath and look up, you’ll see the tangle of wires and loose bits of tinsel; the messy middle.
That’s why I link it with leadership. I hear from leaders every day, some loving it, others finding it heavy, and many navigating their own version of the messy middle.
If you’re like me, once Christmas is over, you’re itching to get the tree down and start planning for a new year and all it brings, new opportunities, a fresh start, etc. Not necessarily big resolutions, just that natural reset that comes with this period of pause.
As we wrap up the year, maybe now’s the time to use the Christmas tree as a reminder to consider your own leadership needs:
⭐️ Pop the decorations on gently.
Give yourself permission to be gentle with yourself.
⭐️ See the lights.
Take a moment to reflect on the many positives and small wins from the past year.
⭐️ Anchor the roots
(or harness the artificial tree in my case!)Reconnect with your values, they’re what hold you steady when everything else is moving fast.
Wishing you a restful, peaceful and restorative festive season.
