Every month, we shine the spotlight on one of our credible leadership coaches. This month, we welcome you to find out more about leadership coach Julie.
A former customer services director at Virgin Atlantic Airways, where she was responsible for managing the airport operations across twenty-six airports in Europe, North America, Asia, and Africa and leading a 100-strong training team, Julie brings over 25 years of commercial experience to her leadership and team coaching.
Passionate about helping others to achieve success as she was when leading her own teams, find out more about who Julie is as a coach, her approach to coaching, and what attracted her to the work of The Leadership Coaches here.
Who Are You as a Coach?
I’m Julie, a leadership coach, team coach, and leadership development facilitator.
Having experienced the challenges of demanding leadership roles, sometimes in systems that had a negative impact on me, I am motivated to be a coach that supports leaders and their teams to be the best they can be while enjoying the journey.
I believe that coaching helps leaders and their teams to deepen their self-awareness, so that choice and change are possible.
What Is Your Approach to Coaching?
My coaching approach is based on research in human behaviour, particularly leadership, team development, and system dynamics. I demonstrate my belief in the individuals and teams that I coach.
Recognising that how we respond to the systems that we are in is not so much about who we are in isolation as it is about the nature of the complex system in which we are operating, it is important that I develop an understanding of the wider system my clients work in.
I often include a systemic perspective in my coaching to help clients see a wider/different, more holistic view of the force in their system.
What’s Your Superpower, and What Are You Known For?
I bring over 25 years of commercial experience and leading global teams to my coaching of individuals and teams. This enables me to help clients to see things from a different perspective, and I help them to find their own way.
My clients have said that I make them feel resourceful and that my positivity is uplifting. They describe my style as professional, authentic, challenging, and empathetic.
What Do You Like About Working With The Leadership Coaches?
As soon as I met Zoé, I recognised someone who is professional, as passionate about coaching as I am, and someone who lives their values. These things are important to me.
I also describe myself as a lifelong learner, and it feels great to work with a group of experts who want to share and learn together and who simultaneously challenge and inspire you.
How Do You Bring Your Expertise to What You Do With The Leadership Coaches?
Having made a number of leadership transitions in my career and through my development as a coach, I have gained a good understanding of the skills and values required when transitioning through leadership levels and the challenges that executives face when moving into a more senior role or to a different environment.
Also, having experience leading teams across four continents and being part of a successful leadership team, I have witnessed the power of a team of people working towards a common purpose. Additionally, for the last six years, I have continued to study and deliver team coaching. I am just as passionate about supporting clients to achieve their desired results as I was when leading my own teams.
In my corporate life, I led a number of change programmes and studied the Psychology of Leadership, Change and Coaching with the CIPD. This enables me to equally challenge and empathise with leaders facing constant change and developing the skills required to maximise their leadership potential.
